IVF or test tube baby as commonly known is a
laboratory procedure in which processed sperm are either placed or injected
into oocyte [egg] in a petridish by the IVF expert to achieve fertilization. If
fertilized, the resultant embryos are transferred into woman’s uterus in hope
for conception.
Dr Akash Sharma, an
experienced embryologist and IVF expert from Delhi has mastered this science.
In just 5th year of his practice in IVF ART, he performed a miracle
of successful deliveries of fourteen test tube babies to seven mothers. On 26th
jan 2012 in Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh, he performed this
incredible feat, which was duly covered by media also. This is world record.
This landmark
achievement will command more appreciation after understanding the complexity
and number of steps involved in IVF.
First of all,
infertility work up for both male and female partner is done. This involves
numerous tests and analysis such as irreparable
non functional fallopian tube, Severe egg factors, Endometriosis grade III and
IV, Severe male factors, Unexplained infertility, Failed IUI treatment, etc.
This is followed with several procedures like assessment of uterine cavity and
ovarian reserve, cervical cultures, endometriosis, evaluation of sperm
collectively known as Pre-cycle evaluation for IVF.
After this preliminary working,
treatment begins requiring a series of action. Ovulation induction, semen
preparation, TESA/PESA/MESA, oocyte retrieval (egg retrieval), insemination,
emryo/blastocyst culture, embryo transfer, etc are the steps to be performed
for IVF.
