ICSI Dr Akash Sharma

An important technique used in Assisted Reproductive Technique is Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection or ICSI. Sometimes fertilization doesn’t occur by placing sperms near oocytes (eggs) in petridish. Sperm needs to be directly injected in the egg. This process is known as ICSI. This is the difference between the normal IVF procedure and ICSI procedure.

There can be many factors pertaining to non fertilization of sperms with the eggs, some of which can be low sperm, unsuccessful fertilization previously, structural difficulties of sperm, immotility of sperm, sperms obtained through electro ejaculation or from azoo-spermic patients (patients with almost nil sperm production), other unexplained failures, etc.

ICSI being a very complicated and delicate procedure involving the use of latest scientific medical equipments such as the inverted microscope and micromanipulator as well as setting and aligning of the injection and holding pipettes requires to be performed by a well trained and experienced ICSI expert.

Process of ICSI requires great deal of precision and attention of details. First of all good quality of sperm and egg needs to be chosen, then injecting a single sperm into the oocyte and later transfer it to the female reproductive tract after the fertilization.

Only a well trained, qualified and experienced ICSI expert should perform the ICSI procedure. Dr Akash Sharma is a qualified ICSI expert currently practicing as Chairman in Adam and Eve test tube baby centre, Noida, Delhi, specializing in molecular pathology and cytogenetics having extensive experience in ICSI (intra cytoplasmic soerm injection) and in growing fertilized eggs in blastocyst cultures. Not just that but he has also trained numerous university doctors in tissue culture, chromosome harvesting, embryology and gamete and egg cryopreservation.
